What I'm Excited About! (7.0)

The weekend is here! Get excited! :)

I have lots of things going on today and finally sat down for a small break (and to blog, of course)! Here's a few things that I'm most excited about:

1. Spring/Summer clothes and shoes are finally in my closet! Winter clothes are stored away in space bags and crammed in various other places. I had no idea I had so many shoes/clothes! I am totally blessed. My closet has been a work in progress for the last two weeks, and I'm excited to be finished.

2. I am starting two novels with my students this upcoming week! The Giver with my 8th graders and either Out of the Dust or Lyddie with 7th grade. I'm still torn between the last two, and I will have to re-read them quickly tonight and tomorrow before I thoroughly decide. Either way, novels are my favorite! I can pull out SOOO many skills. Plus, it's TCAP review time, so it's going work out great!

3. The yard is coming along! I know I keep mentioning it, but I am going back out to finish it as soon as I click publish on this post!

4. I am excited that tomorrow is April Fools Day! Why? Because I can't think of a day I hate worse than April Fools Day, escpecially when it falls on a school day! The kids are constantly pranking each other (and teachers!) so it's just annoying. That's why I'm excited it falls on a weekend! :)

So what are you excited about? :)

High Five for Friday!

Hello, Friday! You are awesome! :) Speaking of awesome, this week rocked. Here are my top five things from this week:

1. Date night with the husband on Wednesday! We drove like 55 miles out of the way to go eat at his favorite bbq joint.
Bored along the way. :)
2. After dinner, Aaron allowed me to shop at the outlet mall near the restaurant. I say "allowed" because he knows what he's in for when I go to an outlet mall. I transform into a crazed power shopper. Anyways, while shopping I venture into American Eagle. Really? My students shop there - not me! HOWEVER, I stumbled upon their "Original Boot" jeans. Ladies, they are wonderful. As a matter of fact, I just ordered two pairs online! Now, shopping for capris is another story. I am short and curvy, and capris feel weird on me. Any brand suggestions, girls?

I only wear dark wash. :)

3. State assessment practice is finally OVER! Now I get to see my students' scores, and I can start really cramming them full of review for the actual test! Ya know, the BIG one.

4. I briefly mentioned this in my last post, but I must  express my enthusiasm once again. I have completely planned out my next year of teaching (only for my 8th graders though). I am beyond thrilled, but as a middle school teacher, I know that nothing ever goes as planned. But that's okay, I feel like I'm on top of things, for a moment.

5. Today I am finally finishing up my flower bed! My husband bought a little storage building on Thursday, so he'll be outside putting it together. We are being totally domestic! (Yeah right!)  But, I do feel like we are getting this place into some shape!

So that's my week! Be sure to visit LAUREN at From My Grey Desk blog! I love linking up with her and everyone else! :)

Have an altogether lovely weekend!

Tackle it Tuesday!

Yay for productive Tuesdays! While administering the practice state assessment to my homeroom today, I was able to look through the new Literature textbook and actually plan the first 20 weeks of school next year!! Woo hooo! It sounds like I am ahead, but I am actually behind on everything else. LOL

This evening, I cooked some shrimp scampi for my mailman husband. It was awesome. After cleaning up, I began a simple, little DIY project.

Flower Pens! We are having a Spring Dance next week as a fundrasier, so I decided to attempt to make some of these to sell to the kids. All you need is some cute duct tape, artificial flowers, scissors, and some wire cutters. So easy! :)  What do you think?

So, what did you tackle today?

Weekend Flashback

PicsArt951332726131397.jpg
The Sunsphere. Bored at a red light. lol

Last night, we went to church with Aaron's dad (and his wife). It was kind of cool going to church in Knoxville, I must say. It's totally different from my normal church experience, seeing that I spend about 10 minutes flying down a country back road on the way to my church, and besides you just can't beat the scenery that I see every Sunday. However, passing UT, the Sun Sphere, Neyland Stadium, and Thompson-Boling Arena on the way to worship was pretty cool too. We are in Knoxville all the time, but it's always cool to switch up the routine a little.

Saturday, Aaron's twin nephews came by with their daddy, of course. They are almost 6 months old and cute as ever!

The only thing better than this weekend??
The fact that Monday is ova and Tuesday is on the way! :)

What I'm Excited About! (6.0)

The weekend is here! Get excited!!!! :)

1. I am preparing a little DIY project. You'll see pics ASAP. It's not a huge ordeal - just some items to sell for a spring fundraiser at school.

2. I am going shopping later.... IN MY OWN CLOSET! I love when the seasons change, and I especially love when it's time to remove all the heavy, wooly winter clothes from my closet and replace them with cute summer clothes. I'm also really ready to remove all of my honkin' huge boots and replace them with flip flops and sandals. But this year is different, all of my summer clothes are at Mom's. So, I have honestly forgotten about all my summery clothes and don't even remember what I even have...so it will be like shopping, but  even better. :)

3. I was able to spend some time with my grandmother today. I love her so much. We always do our hanging out kind of early. So now that we are back, I am blogging for a second then beginning some housework.
Here's All of Us Crammed Into My Cousin's SUV.
LtoR: Grandma, Aunt, (part of Aaron's head, then me) and Mom without makeup. haha
Yes, I am aware my hair is really big on one side... OH well! :)
Not the best pic, but it's hilarious.

4. Next week is state assessment practice. Therefore, next week will be totally easy (but slightly boring) for me. I am looking forward to a little less stress and some time to get caught up on a few things. Hope my students do an awesome job!

Okay, thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend! :) :) :)

High Five for Friday!

TGIF! What a busy week it's been, and I have been so excited about the weekend -  for no reason other than getting to sleep in a little!

So, here's my top five from this week - although I will apologize ahead of time: I have been extremely wrapped up with school and church so this post may not be too thrilling...
Also, I am linking up with Lauren @ From my Grey Desk!

1. Here's the thrilling part: during our church's revival we have seen 4 souls saved! That's a wonderful amount especially because our church isn't huge.

2. Thursday night was our last parent-teacher conference! Thank goodness those are over! Conferences make for such a long day!

3. This past week, the textbook committe for our school system met to select the new Literature textbooks (we'll be stuck with them for the next six years).  This means, all the Lit teachers, like myself, met and voted on which one we liked best. I'm so glad the one I voted for won because IT. IS. AWESOME! Annnd, it will make this little teacher's life soooo much easier!

4. The beginning of the end is near for us teachers! These last several weeks of school are always considered CRUNCH time! Everything begins to get hectic and crazy, but being an 8th grade teacher might be a little worse. We have promotion, prom, trips, state assessment, etc, etc... This really is my favorite time of the school year though because I know summer (AND SPRING BREAK!) is just around the corner!

5. All the healthy food in our fridge! I mentioned in my last post about my husband"s sodium issue.Well, we went shopping for groceries (which is now THE MOST stressful experience ever) we found enough low sodium foods to restock our fridge and pantry. Maybe we'll both get healthy... We have to try really hard, and I think it's gonna happen. :)

Sorry for all the cheesy cartoons!!! :)

Have an altogether lovely weekend!

Pass the salt...

Well, not anymore! Aaron went to the doctor for a little check up and found out that sodium is now a bigggg no-no! So, we have purged our pantry and fridge of any processed foods, and we are headed to the store for some healthier choices. Don't get me wrong, we try to eat fairly healthy at home, but unfortunately we eat out quite a bit so this is going to be a big adjustment! I'm excited to get healthy though. It's going to happen...   this time around. lol

Since it's Wednesday and time for something Pinteresting, I decided to look for something low-sodium!
Doesn't this look great? :) It's on the grocery list....

Have a lovely Wednesday! :)

Tackle it Tuesday!!

Tuesday's almost gone, and I have to say that I am pretty satisfied with the things that I have accomplished today. Semester grades are entered, grading is caught up, and I taught a fun lesson today. I actually had a good time at school! :) Even keeping detention/study hall wasn't so miserable; I was indoors tackling some serious organization and decluttering (even though everyone else was outside enjoying a warm, sunny recess).

But at home? Wowww. Home is a different story. Everything is crazy! The yard is torn apart, there are no towels clean, and the sink is piled with dishes. :( I never ever allow it to get this way, but our church is currently holding a revival, and it takes everything in me to come home and do one or two things, get ready and head back out to church. Then, when I get back home from church, I have planning or grading to do. Whew... I am totally whining, and I apologize. All this rushing is totally worth the wonderful services we've been having. What a blessing it's been!

But, what I'm tackling this Tuesday is a week-long hit and miss yard project. Aaron works on it for a few minutes, then I'll work on it a minute or two. But we ARE getting this done ASAP. Here's what I'm planting!

Hostas! (in a partially shady area)

Knock Out Roses! (in a sunny area)

We also bought a few bags of river pebbles for the area around our holly bushes.

Our yard will be cute - eventually. Can't wait to post pics soon! Right now it's pretty rough, lol.

Have altogether lovely Tuesday! Go tackle something!

Coral and Gold...

It's my new favorite color combo lately! Isn't it adorable together? It's so vibrant, classy, and summery/springy.

I am now on the look out for a cute beige top to wear this with! Wouldn't a beige top and white capris look so cute with this jewelry that I picked up today?

I couldn't decide which earrings to buy, so obviously I got both!

It's time to start a new week - already.
So start Monday off with a BANG! :) bahaha

High Five for Friday!

It's Friday again (finally)!!! This week totally crept along, but we made it. Yay! Once again, I am linking up with Lauren at From my Grey Desk! I'm linking up a little later than usual, but hey, at least I made it before midnight!

5. How about we start with the fact that it's FRIDAY! This is the first full week I have worked in probably over a month! Thanks to a personal day, President's day, and a few snow days thrown in here and there! So, I was terribly ready for the weekend!

4. My husband's DIY project. Yes folks, he's craftin' it up. Aaron is building is own guitar! It's a work in progress, and a very expensive one at that! But, he seriously has the knowledge and patience to do this because he loves music that much. Here is the paint job he did today. I am so proud. This picture doesn't do the chrome blue color justice. (Sorry about the DIY-related junk scattered throughout the pic! I also made him put down a towel while he drills those little holes for all the little thing-a-ma-bobs.) Can't wait to post an "after" pic!

3. I'm loving the fact that it is time for open-toed shoes!! I'm not saying it's totally flip-flop/strappy sandal weather, but peep toes are okay, I think. :) :) :) Yay for Spring! By the way, these shoes are adorable and comfy...and they came from ROSS!

2. I completed all of my evaluations for this school year. I mentioned this in yesterday's post, but I just have to say it again! I'M FINISHED WITH MY EVALUATIONS!!

1. I was able to go out with my girlfriends this past Monday! Seeing them was the only thing that made Monday bearable. lol
Getting to spend time with them is so awesome because we live over an hour apart.  Also, they got me some cute gifts for my birthday! hehe

Have an altogether lovely weekend! :)

Some thoughts for Thursday...

Usually I do Throwback Thursday, but today I'm just not in the mood for it. I have a lot on my mind that I am unfortunately dumping off on whoever wants to read this. Thanks, by the way!  :)

I have a heavy heart lately, and I am praying for God to give me (and my husband) guidance as we search for answers to some very serious questions. I have faith that God will open doors if we are both faithfully willing to just walk through them once they're opened. That's a big step, literally!

Yesterday, I typed Third Day in the search bar on Pandora, and ironically, this song came on. (Oh, who am I kidding? Nothing is ever ironic when it comes to God. He knows exactly what we need to hear and when we need to hear it.) There has never been a song that has explained my situation so perfectly:
 - - - -
Give me a revelation
Show me what to do
‘Cause I’ve been trying to find my way
I haven’t got a clue
Tell me should I stay here
Or do I need to move?
Give me a revelation
I’ve got nothing without You
 - - - - -
Okay, enough seriousness. You know me, I have to be excited about something. Well, tomorrow is my LAST observation/evaluation for this school year!!! And thankfully, I have made awesome scores on all of them so far. Let's hope tomorrow yields the same outcome!

I am planning to do center activities with the kids. We have been studying foreign phrases, and they seem to like it.
Tomorrow's centers consist of:
Foreign Phrases Bingo
Vocabulary Mapping
Greek and Latin Root Words (skill center with me)
Using Dictionaries to determine word origins

Hopefully those will be okay!

Well, here's a throwback pic for laughs(and since we're on the subject of Reading)!
Do you remember the Sweet Valley Twins? Omg, my fave books ever... when I was 11!
LOL!

Come back tomorrow for High Five for Friday! Woo hoo!

Going Green.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I found some cute green things on Pinterest that I'm sharing. (I love St. Patty's Day, but not nearly as much as I love Pinterest.)  Laura from Beauty and the Beard inspired me to do this post. :)

MAC Emerald Eyeshadow, of course. So pretty! Pinned here.

Perfect outfit for St. Patty's - so you won't get pinched! lol

Adorable Green Shoes. I heart peep toes!! :)

And last but not least, Grasshopper Ice Cream Squares. YUM! The perfect St. Patty's dessert.
I love the mint-chocolate combo. That's probably why I am an Andes Mint-aholic. Actually, I really only like the ones from Olive Garden. Yeah, I'm weird.

Have a great hump day!!!

Propaganda, Closet Space, and TACKLE IT TUESDAY!

Well, my seventh and eighth graders wrapped up our Propaganda unit today! We had a lot of fun covering this concept. One of the questions on their test dealt with the fact that propaganda appeals to our emotions rather than our minds - which is totally true. I never really realized how true this was until we moved into our cute little house and drastically downsized our closet space. In  my mind, logically thinking, I know without a doubt that I have absolutely no more room  in my closet - for anything. However, when I go shopping and see a sale or a cute mannequin all decked out in the cutest outfit, I just feeeeel like I need whatever it is I'm looking at. My emotions begin to stir, and I run straight to the register. Then, it hits me when I get home.... Uh, just where in the world will I cram this new outfit?

Luckily, today is Tuesday aka TACKLE IT TUESDAY! So what am I tackling?? This closet ordeal.

I am removing all of my winter clothes (heavy sweaters, coats, etc) from my teeny-tiny closet and placing them strategically into SPACE BAGS!!

With the 10-day forecast looking almost like summer, I think it's safe to say I don't need two coats, three jackets, and six hoodies hanging up. Besides, if I do happen to need something wintry, I can just pull the space bags out from under my bed and take out whatever I need.

I am so excited! More space!!

What are YOU tackling today??

Hallelujah!

Remember this post??? And this pin from Pinterest?
Pinned Image

I was so excited to try this new method for turning in center work! Let me tell you, it is a beautiful concept. It works great, and the folders are so easy to take home and grade - all while staying organized! It has cut my center work grading time in half! :) I love it!

So, if you do centers, then try the paper drop! Laminate enough clasp folders for your centers, write the center name/number on the outside, place the bin within easy reach of the kiddos, and let them do the sorting for you. :)

Hehe ;)

What I Am Excited About! (4)

It's Saturday, and I am excited (of course)!!!

1. Saturday = The Pioneer Woman on Food Network! I adore her.

2.. It's time to Spring Forward!! Thank goodness for cell phones that automatically adjust to the time change! :) Speaking of Spring, I am planning to make a flower bed in front of our porch. I already ordered some Gladiolus bulbs and am pondering on what I should get next. I know it will be a big job, but I am still excited about it. Good thing my bff has a green thumb and an eye for pretty flowers.  (The gal on the left (next to me) in the bottom pic).

3. Shopping with the girlies on Monday! It's going to be so much fun. We've been friends since college. (The two gals on the right)

Have a blessed weekend!

High Five for Friday!!

Once again, it's time for High Five for Friday with Lauren at From My Grey Desk! Here is my top five from this week!

5. My church's youth group/choir met this week for singing practice. I just love working with the younger ones and hearing how fast they catch onto songs! Our church is blessed with some amazing kids! HERE is the song we learned.

4. This week was a THREE DAY WEEK thanks to a snow day on Monday and election day on Tuesday! (I know, it probably seems like I never work because I'm always bragging about short weeks!)

3. As of this week, my husband and I are finally free from the tyranny of Verizon Wireless! When we got married, he and I both had a Verizon contract, but when we moved into our cute little house, apparently we moved into a no coverage area. So, we had to step outside to text or call anyone. After about 6 months of this, I was over it. So we dropped the contract with VZW and went with US Cellular! We love the coverage we're getting...andddddd I got this -

2. My Motorola Electrify!!! I adore it. I haven't figured everything out, but so far it is awesome. And, it has a kickstand... what? Totally cool.

1!! My birthday was this week. Yes, I know I've mentioned it a lot, but hey, it only rolls around once a year! My husband (and everyone else) thoroughly spoiled me. My students made it a great day also. But my favorite part about my birthday? MY CAKE! It's a California CheeseCAKE from Gondolier. It's a layer of fruit/icing, then a layer of cheesecake, then white cake, then more cheesecake. It weighs 20 lbs - which is how much weight I will have gained once it's all gone!

Throwback Thursday!

Remember when....

Well, in honor of my birthday today I decided to do a birthday-themed Throwback Thursday, although I hate to admit that I have no personal pics related to this post. But, who cares?!?!

Backstreet Boys!
Remember them? Who doesn't?

When I was in 5th grade, I had a BSB Birthday Party! However, it wasn't just any ol' bday party. It was a SKATING party. My parents rented out a little skating arena for me and all my friends. We had BSB cake and skated to this CD! It was a true 10 year old's heaven. Then, the next year right after the real millenium, I went to their concert in Knoxville. *sigh* :)
See that magnet at the top on the left?? That was ON my cake! Oh, the memories! lol

This also makes me think about throwback technology. Remember Enhanced Cd's? Well, BSB's first album was enhanced, so when you stuck it into the disk drive on the computer, a window popped up in which all the guys would start singing and talking to ya. Well, I was ten. I didn't know what Enhanced CD meant! So, when I put their CD into my pc for the first time, my cousin and I almost passed out!! We just KNEW our CD was special and that they were talking solely to us! Bahaha.
Okay, that's an embarrassing confession.

Hope you have a great Thursday! :)

PS: Operation Classroom Organization is still going on.

Tackle it Tuesday!

Yay! Today is Tuesday, and I finally got something done that I've been putting off since October!

I went to the dentist to get my chipped front tooth fixed! Granted, the chip was microscopic and only about .5 mm wide, but still, a girl's gotta have a pretty smile!

Here's the story behind the "chip" if you care to know:
When I was a junior in high school, I was kicked in the mouth during cheerleading practice (we were trying this awesome-looking stunt). Well, obviously, the stunt went wrong; I lost a tooth, and my partner lost a huge handful of hair. LOL

I have a dentist phobia. I panic at the thought of a dentist. But, my friend from church is a dental hygienist, and obviously I trust her, so I allowed her to book me an appointment...they were all so awesome today, and the procedure literally took 10 minutes and it looks great! (Painless, too!) I think I have almost conquered my fear. lol

Brag moment: They also had some trouble matching the bonding for my tooth because my teeth were so WHITE! Yay! Everyone likes hearing that news.

 Haha!

Operation Classroom Organization!

Wow, my classroom is a whirlwind of supplies, cabinets, papers, books, and other types of junk. I have purged and cleansed quite a bit of the junk from the room, but sometimes I don't even think I put a dent in it.

Anyways, here are some cute ideas I have found on Pinterest to help me organize and redesign my classroom. It's a slow-going process, but I think by this summer I will totally have it the way I want it. :)

First, I found the center solution I have always been looking for (pinned here.). I cannot believe I didn't think to do this! But, lo and behold, the reason for pinterest. It's really a blessing.
Pinned Image
It's a clasp folder for every center! The kids cram their work into the designated folder. DUH?

Here's another:
A dish rack will hold file folders! Brilliant!!
Um, who knew a DISH DRAINER would hold file folders so well? I mean, come on! And pencils have their own little place in the silverware spot! I love it.

One more:
DIY desk organizer for papers!
Pinned Image
Yep, just wrap three large cereal boxes with some cute gift wrap to match your decor and you have a cute desk organizer. Hm, I wonder if you can go higher than three? I'm curious because I have five periods throughout the day. Guess we'll see when I test  it out!

I cannot wait to use these tips, and I cannot wait to make my classroom cute, fun, and organized!
Oh yeah, there will be before/after pics involved. :)

What I'm Excited About! (3)

It's Saturday and time for me to share some things that I am excited about!

1. Today consists of housewife duties - which is something I can't believe I am actually excited about. But while the husband is working, I get to cook, clean, organize, read, and REST. lol As a teacher, all of those things are rarities. What am I reading?

2. Next week is another short week! No school Tuesday for election day! I do have a dentist appointment that day, though. Yuck.

3. Tonight is a household shower for my cousin. She and her family bought a new house, and I am so happy for them. And, I love showers. Showers/birthday parties, etc = socialization and finger foods :P

4. I like this top from Kohl's ... a lot! Love the rosy color and the layered look... I'm seeing things in chevron print everywhere! This is cute but teacher-ish, too. lol

Croft and Barrow Chevron Mock-Layer Top

5. It's my birthday this week! I am so blessed to have yet another one.
