It's here, it's here, it's here!

Eeekk! State testing begins tomorrow! I am on the verge of flipping out, but I know I must collect myself and be confident for the kiddos. I am so proud of them for working so hard this far. I know they will rock this test! (Or at least they'd BETTER!) lol
This is exactly how I feel. Ughhh.

Here are a couple of "encouraging" bulletin boards/posters that I put up in my classroom. Since we have to cover up any and all informative posters, I thought I might as well make use of that blank space!

This one is all handmade/handwritten with no patterns. :) I'm proud!

I just kinda slapped this one up there to cover up a reading poster. Quirky, I know.

Have a great week!! :)

What I'm Excited About! (8)

It's the weekend, and you know what that means! It's time to get excited!

First of all, let me get two things out of the way that I am NOT excited about:
1. Next week is the state assessment! It is THE most important week of school - ever. It is also the scariest and most nerve racking, too! lol
2. I wasn't able to do a High Five for Friday because I was soo busy. But, I was busy having fun, so that makes it alright, I guess. :)

Okay, on to some excitement! :)

  • We are taking the husband's grandmother out for her birthday today. She is the sweetest lady ever, and I'm so glad to have her in my life!
  • Afterwards, I am going to somewhere to buy TWO of these:
One like this for the bathroom and...
a much nicer one for the bedroom since we don't have room for an acutal dresser.
(So sad that I had to leave most of my fancy-shmancy Cherry bedroom suit back at my parents' house!) WE. HAVE. NO. SPACE. HERE.

  • The countdown is on for D.C.!!! In  9 days, I will be on my merry way! Woo Hoo :)
Have an  altogether lovely weekend!

Volume!

Yesterday, I had to wear a heart monitor again. Long story short: I've always had a weird heart condition, so it's just a check up thing. But anyways, I obviously could not take a real shower with that crazy contraption on, so my mom washed my hair for me in her pedestal sink.
After she washed it, I wrapped a towel around my head and drove home. Then, I brushed my hair (it was almost dry) and went to bed. When I woke up, my hair was ENORMOUS.
(Refer to my Reba post for an example of huge hair..haha)
So this morning I used my Instyler and basically fixed my hair like normal with my average amount of teasing and product. But let me tell you, my hair had such pretty volume and fullness all day. It never fell flat! Not once!
I even used my normal shampoo:
What do I think made the difference?
I think the key was washing my hair UPSIDE DOWN!
Tonight, I washed my hair and it definitely doesn't feel like it did last night. :(
So what do you think? Have you tried this before?

Fancy!

I am from the South. More importantly, I am from Tennessee  - the birthplace of country music. Like it or not, country music surrounds Tennesseans. My husband, for instance, hates country music, and I, on the other hand, can tolerate it. I might even go far enough to say I sometimes enjoy it - especially the older stuff, and there are always those certain songs that you have to belt out whenever you hear them on the radio.... orrrrrrrrrrrrrr in the dollar store.

"Fancy" by Reba is one of those songs. I just happen to know this song word for word and whenever it comes on, I am captivated and begin singing it involuntarily. When I say involuntarily, I mean it!

As we were quickly shopping for paper towels and Tide today, I hear this glorious song in the dollar store. And what happens? I sing. As I try to hold myself back (but cannot), Aaron hushes me. I make an honest effort to shush, but can't especially when it came to the "ya know, I mighta been born just plain white trash, but Fancy was'a my name!" part.

By this point, Aaron made a beeline for the cash register to get away from me. As I am singing, carrying paper towels, and running to catch up, I hear from the next aisle over, "SING IT, REBA!" from a dollar store worker! Bwahaha!

It was the funniest moment for me, yet the most humiliating for Aaron. We are just so different, but that's why I love him. He's serious, and I'm dorky. Balance. :)

Here's your one chance, Fancy don't let me down
duh duh dum da da.....

Operation Classroom Cuteness!

I am totally wanting to make my classroom prettier (and more organized) while I'm off this coming summer. My classroom has a pastel/chiffon yellow paint on the walls, and the rest of the furniture is bright red (including the cabinets)! It's cute, but it could use some modernizing!

I have a large two-door cabinet/closet thingy, a big four-drawer filing cabinet, and a small two-drawer filing cabinet that need some cuteness factored in! Look at this awesome idea!

Pinned Image

Um, that is wallpaper, folks! So cute!

This will be happening in my classroom ASAP.

Much Love!
Thanks for reading!

Leibster Award!!!

Um, how cool is this?? The lovely Michelle from My Book of Love blog has nominated me for the Liebster Blog award! A neat thing about the award is that it requires the nominees to share 5 random facts about themselves! So here goes:

1. I still dress up for Halloween. In fact, this past year I was Cruella DeVil! :)
Nearly the whole costume came from Goodwill. hehe

2. I was a cheerleader all throughout middle school and high school. Now, I am a middle school cheer coach. :)
That's me. Third one from the LEFT on the front row.

3. On my senior trip to NYC, I was on the Today show for .43263 seconds!  lol

4. In December of 2010, I came down with the strangest sickness called "the fifth disease." It's a an illness that only kids are supposed to get. Well, I was a sheltered child so I never caught it. But lo and behold, I caught it during my first year of teaching! In adults, the symptoms are much worse and even dangerous. For over two weeks I couldn't eat, walk, or even turn my neck. By Christmas, I was weak but trying to function normally. My family went to Dollywood for the Christmas celebration, and I had to ride a scooter!! Bahaha. Total learning experience.

5. I was a bridesmaid in four weddings during a span of 2 years.  :)

High Five for Friday!

Aww man, it's Friday already? It has been a long time since I haven't wanted to see Friday roll back around, but I've been spring breakin' it! Sadly, I can't believe it's almost over!!! :(

I missed linking up with Lauren last week. Heck, I haven't blogged since forever ago, but like I said, it's spring break!! And, that's been my excuse for everything this week. I love it!

Okay, let's do this!

1. I recieved the Liebster Blog Award from the lovely Michelle from My Book of Love blog! I can't wait to do a follow up post and make my own nominations!! I am honored and flattered. Thanks, Michelle!

2. Well, I used a grill all by myself Thursday (and I only made one panic-stricken phone call to my husband in the process!). I was scared and intimidated, but I pulled it off! The food was okay, and I didn't burn down the house or singe my eyebrows off or anything!  :)

I love being Southern. :)

3. Revlon's Electric Pink nail polish! My new fave color for spring... and probably summer. It is so bright and cheerful, but it isn't too crazy and wild. Just what I've been looking for - and I've been looking everywhere.

4. See those jeans in the background in the pic above? Those are the American Eagle jeans I talked about in this post!! They came in last week and are everything I dreamed of.

AE Original Boot Jeans
5. Okay, it's time to go all teacher-ish and nerdy on the High Five list! This week is the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic! I'm pretty sure this like a once-in-a-lifetime ordeal! If you've read my About Me page, then you know I love history! I just can't help it. Anyways, I visited the Titanic Museum this past October. They were doing a cool thing for the 100 yr anniversary by letting each visitor drop a rose petal into a huge container that they will be taking out to the actual location of the sinking, and then they will release all those rose petals! How cool will it be that mine will be floating around out there?!?

Aaron and I in front of the museum.
It's actually built to look just like the ship on the outside!

Have an altogether lovely weekend!

A Recipe for Hump Day!

Well, I came home today to my husband and brother-in-law outside building a storage shed for the lawn mower and all of the other various tools/yard toys. And he says I have too many shoes!! Haaa.

Anyways, a couple of weeks ago I mentioned our new low-sodium diet in this post. I pinned a recipe for White Chicken Chili that looked amazing. Since I knew the boys would be starving, I decided to try it out...except I didn't even look at the recipe. I just started cooking and it turned out to be awesome! Every drop was eaten! (Thanks guys!)

Here's how I made it:
1 package of boneless, skinless chicken.. I used tenderloins.
1 onion
1 green pepper
1 can whole kernel sweet corn (no salt added)
1 can White Great Northern beans (low sodium)
1 can Rotel (mild)
About a half cup of water
About a half cup of chicken stock/broth
Cumin to taste   - I used quite a bit!
Paprika to taste - I used quite a bit!
Pinch of Garlic Powder
Pinch of Cayenne Pepper
Dash of dried cilantro
Salt substitute
Black Pepper

Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and the garlic. Cut up the chicken into bite sized pieces and cook it with the green pepper and onion, then begin adding the canned items/liquid ingredients. Keep tasting it and seasoning it everytime you add a new ingredient.

I also cut some corn torillas into triangles and baked them for about 8 minutes at 350. Or, you could eat the chili with warm flour tortillas. I am just proud of the low sodium content. I think the only ingredients that contained sodium would be the Rotel, stock, and beans.

Give it a try! I didn't get a pic because it was gone so fast!  :)

Monday, Monday!

Well, it was a good day except my students seemed a little unreachable today! I don't know what the deal was, but they totally exhausted me. I did everything but stand on my head to get their attention. I guess I will try that tomorrow. :(

On a lighter note, Mother and I are leaving in a few minutes to search relentlessly for Easter dresses. I am more of a skirt-and-top kinda girl, so Easter dress shopping is a chore. Let's hope I come home with something cute, like this:

Ruffled Cutout Dress
- with white shoes and gold accessories :)

Gathered Abstract Rose Dress
- With nude shoes!

Who knows what I'll end up with!

What I'm Excited About! (7.0)

The weekend is here! Get excited! :)

I have lots of things going on today and finally sat down for a small break (and to blog, of course)! Here's a few things that I'm most excited about:

1. Spring/Summer clothes and shoes are finally in my closet! Winter clothes are stored away in space bags and crammed in various other places. I had no idea I had so many shoes/clothes! I am totally blessed. My closet has been a work in progress for the last two weeks, and I'm excited to be finished.

2. I am starting two novels with my students this upcoming week! The Giver with my 8th graders and either Out of the Dust or Lyddie with 7th grade. I'm still torn between the last two, and I will have to re-read them quickly tonight and tomorrow before I thoroughly decide. Either way, novels are my favorite! I can pull out SOOO many skills. Plus, it's TCAP review time, so it's going work out great!

3. The yard is coming along! I know I keep mentioning it, but I am going back out to finish it as soon as I click publish on this post!

4. I am excited that tomorrow is April Fools Day! Why? Because I can't think of a day I hate worse than April Fools Day, escpecially when it falls on a school day! The kids are constantly pranking each other (and teachers!) so it's just annoying. That's why I'm excited it falls on a weekend! :)

So what are you excited about? :)

High Five for Friday!

Hello, Friday! You are awesome! :) Speaking of awesome, this week rocked. Here are my top five things from this week:

1. Date night with the husband on Wednesday! We drove like 55 miles out of the way to go eat at his favorite bbq joint.
Bored along the way. :)
2. After dinner, Aaron allowed me to shop at the outlet mall near the restaurant. I say "allowed" because he knows what he's in for when I go to an outlet mall. I transform into a crazed power shopper. Anyways, while shopping I venture into American Eagle. Really? My students shop there - not me! HOWEVER, I stumbled upon their "Original Boot" jeans. Ladies, they are wonderful. As a matter of fact, I just ordered two pairs online! Now, shopping for capris is another story. I am short and curvy, and capris feel weird on me. Any brand suggestions, girls?

I only wear dark wash. :)

3. State assessment practice is finally OVER! Now I get to see my students' scores, and I can start really cramming them full of review for the actual test! Ya know, the BIG one.

4. I briefly mentioned this in my last post, but I must  express my enthusiasm once again. I have completely planned out my next year of teaching (only for my 8th graders though). I am beyond thrilled, but as a middle school teacher, I know that nothing ever goes as planned. But that's okay, I feel like I'm on top of things, for a moment.

5. Today I am finally finishing up my flower bed! My husband bought a little storage building on Thursday, so he'll be outside putting it together. We are being totally domestic! (Yeah right!)  But, I do feel like we are getting this place into some shape!

So that's my week! Be sure to visit LAUREN at From My Grey Desk blog! I love linking up with her and everyone else! :)

Have an altogether lovely weekend!

Tackle it Tuesday!

Yay for productive Tuesdays! While administering the practice state assessment to my homeroom today, I was able to look through the new Literature textbook and actually plan the first 20 weeks of school next year!! Woo hooo! It sounds like I am ahead, but I am actually behind on everything else. LOL

This evening, I cooked some shrimp scampi for my mailman husband. It was awesome. After cleaning up, I began a simple, little DIY project.

Flower Pens! We are having a Spring Dance next week as a fundrasier, so I decided to attempt to make some of these to sell to the kids. All you need is some cute duct tape, artificial flowers, scissors, and some wire cutters. So easy! :)  What do you think?

So, what did you tackle today?

Weekend Flashback

PicsArt951332726131397.jpg
The Sunsphere. Bored at a red light. lol

Last night, we went to church with Aaron's dad (and his wife). It was kind of cool going to church in Knoxville, I must say. It's totally different from my normal church experience, seeing that I spend about 10 minutes flying down a country back road on the way to my church, and besides you just can't beat the scenery that I see every Sunday. However, passing UT, the Sun Sphere, Neyland Stadium, and Thompson-Boling Arena on the way to worship was pretty cool too. We are in Knoxville all the time, but it's always cool to switch up the routine a little.

Saturday, Aaron's twin nephews came by with their daddy, of course. They are almost 6 months old and cute as ever!

The only thing better than this weekend??
The fact that Monday is ova and Tuesday is on the way! :)

What I'm Excited About! (6.0)

The weekend is here! Get excited!!!! :)

1. I am preparing a little DIY project. You'll see pics ASAP. It's not a huge ordeal - just some items to sell for a spring fundraiser at school.

2. I am going shopping later.... IN MY OWN CLOSET! I love when the seasons change, and I especially love when it's time to remove all the heavy, wooly winter clothes from my closet and replace them with cute summer clothes. I'm also really ready to remove all of my honkin' huge boots and replace them with flip flops and sandals. But this year is different, all of my summer clothes are at Mom's. So, I have honestly forgotten about all my summery clothes and don't even remember what I even have...so it will be like shopping, but  even better. :)

3. I was able to spend some time with my grandmother today. I love her so much. We always do our hanging out kind of early. So now that we are back, I am blogging for a second then beginning some housework.
Here's All of Us Crammed Into My Cousin's SUV.
LtoR: Grandma, Aunt, (part of Aaron's head, then me) and Mom without makeup. haha
Yes, I am aware my hair is really big on one side... OH well! :)
Not the best pic, but it's hilarious.

4. Next week is state assessment practice. Therefore, next week will be totally easy (but slightly boring) for me. I am looking forward to a little less stress and some time to get caught up on a few things. Hope my students do an awesome job!

Okay, thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend! :) :) :)

High Five for Friday!

TGIF! What a busy week it's been, and I have been so excited about the weekend -  for no reason other than getting to sleep in a little!

So, here's my top five from this week - although I will apologize ahead of time: I have been extremely wrapped up with school and church so this post may not be too thrilling...
Also, I am linking up with Lauren @ From my Grey Desk!

1. Here's the thrilling part: during our church's revival we have seen 4 souls saved! That's a wonderful amount especially because our church isn't huge.

2. Thursday night was our last parent-teacher conference! Thank goodness those are over! Conferences make for such a long day!

3. This past week, the textbook committe for our school system met to select the new Literature textbooks (we'll be stuck with them for the next six years).  This means, all the Lit teachers, like myself, met and voted on which one we liked best. I'm so glad the one I voted for won because IT. IS. AWESOME! Annnd, it will make this little teacher's life soooo much easier!

4. The beginning of the end is near for us teachers! These last several weeks of school are always considered CRUNCH time! Everything begins to get hectic and crazy, but being an 8th grade teacher might be a little worse. We have promotion, prom, trips, state assessment, etc, etc... This really is my favorite time of the school year though because I know summer (AND SPRING BREAK!) is just around the corner!

5. All the healthy food in our fridge! I mentioned in my last post about my husband"s sodium issue.Well, we went shopping for groceries (which is now THE MOST stressful experience ever) we found enough low sodium foods to restock our fridge and pantry. Maybe we'll both get healthy... We have to try really hard, and I think it's gonna happen. :)

Sorry for all the cheesy cartoons!!! :)

Have an altogether lovely weekend!

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Pass the salt...

Well, not anymore! Aaron went to the doctor for a little check up and found out that sodium is now a bigggg no-no! So, we have purged our pantry and fridge of any processed foods, and we are headed to the store for some healthier choices. Don't get me wrong, we try to eat fairly healthy at home, but unfortunately we eat out quite a bit so this is going to be a big adjustment! I'm excited to get healthy though. It's going to happen...   this time around. lol

Since it's Wednesday and time for something Pinteresting, I decided to look for something low-sodium!
Doesn't this look great? :) It's on the grocery list....

Have a lovely Wednesday! :)

Tackle it Tuesday!!

Tuesday's almost gone, and I have to say that I am pretty satisfied with the things that I have accomplished today. Semester grades are entered, grading is caught up, and I taught a fun lesson today. I actually had a good time at school! :) Even keeping detention/study hall wasn't so miserable; I was indoors tackling some serious organization and decluttering (even though everyone else was outside enjoying a warm, sunny recess).

But at home? Wowww. Home is a different story. Everything is crazy! The yard is torn apart, there are no towels clean, and the sink is piled with dishes. :( I never ever allow it to get this way, but our church is currently holding a revival, and it takes everything in me to come home and do one or two things, get ready and head back out to church. Then, when I get back home from church, I have planning or grading to do. Whew... I am totally whining, and I apologize. All this rushing is totally worth the wonderful services we've been having. What a blessing it's been!

But, what I'm tackling this Tuesday is a week-long hit and miss yard project. Aaron works on it for a few minutes, then I'll work on it a minute or two. But we ARE getting this done ASAP. Here's what I'm planting!

Hostas! (in a partially shady area)

Knock Out Roses! (in a sunny area)

We also bought a few bags of river pebbles for the area around our holly bushes.

Our yard will be cute - eventually. Can't wait to post pics soon! Right now it's pretty rough, lol.

Have altogether lovely Tuesday! Go tackle something!

Coral and Gold...

It's my new favorite color combo lately! Isn't it adorable together? It's so vibrant, classy, and summery/springy.

I am now on the look out for a cute beige top to wear this with! Wouldn't a beige top and white capris look so cute with this jewelry that I picked up today?

I couldn't decide which earrings to buy, so obviously I got both!

It's time to start a new week - already.
So start Monday off with a BANG! :) bahaha

High Five for Friday!

It's Friday again (finally)!!! This week totally crept along, but we made it. Yay! Once again, I am linking up with Lauren at From my Grey Desk! I'm linking up a little later than usual, but hey, at least I made it before midnight!

5. How about we start with the fact that it's FRIDAY! This is the first full week I have worked in probably over a month! Thanks to a personal day, President's day, and a few snow days thrown in here and there! So, I was terribly ready for the weekend!

4. My husband's DIY project. Yes folks, he's craftin' it up. Aaron is building is own guitar! It's a work in progress, and a very expensive one at that! But, he seriously has the knowledge and patience to do this because he loves music that much. Here is the paint job he did today. I am so proud. This picture doesn't do the chrome blue color justice. (Sorry about the DIY-related junk scattered throughout the pic! I also made him put down a towel while he drills those little holes for all the little thing-a-ma-bobs.) Can't wait to post an "after" pic!

3. I'm loving the fact that it is time for open-toed shoes!! I'm not saying it's totally flip-flop/strappy sandal weather, but peep toes are okay, I think. :) :) :) Yay for Spring! By the way, these shoes are adorable and comfy...and they came from ROSS!

2. I completed all of my evaluations for this school year. I mentioned this in yesterday's post, but I just have to say it again! I'M FINISHED WITH MY EVALUATIONS!!

1. I was able to go out with my girlfriends this past Monday! Seeing them was the only thing that made Monday bearable. lol
Getting to spend time with them is so awesome because we live over an hour apart.  Also, they got me some cute gifts for my birthday! hehe

Have an altogether lovely weekend! :)

Some thoughts for Thursday...

Usually I do Throwback Thursday, but today I'm just not in the mood for it. I have a lot on my mind that I am unfortunately dumping off on whoever wants to read this. Thanks, by the way!  :)

I have a heavy heart lately, and I am praying for God to give me (and my husband) guidance as we search for answers to some very serious questions. I have faith that God will open doors if we are both faithfully willing to just walk through them once they're opened. That's a big step, literally!

Yesterday, I typed Third Day in the search bar on Pandora, and ironically, this song came on. (Oh, who am I kidding? Nothing is ever ironic when it comes to God. He knows exactly what we need to hear and when we need to hear it.) There has never been a song that has explained my situation so perfectly:
 - - - -
Give me a revelation
Show me what to do
‘Cause I’ve been trying to find my way
I haven’t got a clue
Tell me should I stay here
Or do I need to move?
Give me a revelation
I’ve got nothing without You
 - - - - -
Okay, enough seriousness. You know me, I have to be excited about something. Well, tomorrow is my LAST observation/evaluation for this school year!!! And thankfully, I have made awesome scores on all of them so far. Let's hope tomorrow yields the same outcome!

I am planning to do center activities with the kids. We have been studying foreign phrases, and they seem to like it.
Tomorrow's centers consist of:
Foreign Phrases Bingo
Vocabulary Mapping
Greek and Latin Root Words (skill center with me)
Using Dictionaries to determine word origins

Hopefully those will be okay!

Well, here's a throwback pic for laughs(and since we're on the subject of Reading)!
Do you remember the Sweet Valley Twins? Omg, my fave books ever... when I was 11!
LOL!

Come back tomorrow for High Five for Friday! Woo hoo!
